"The Trumpian Encore" by ChatGPT
POEM: I asked ChatGPT to write a new poem about Trump's 2024 presidential campaign based on mine of 2016 called "Little Donny Loser," using legitimate news sources. It did it in seconds. Worrisome.
Me: Hello. I wrote a poem about Donald Trump when he was running to become president in 2016. This is the poem:

Me: "Little Donny Loser" by David Guilbault, June 1, 2016 Little Donny Loser. Such a sad, small man. Wants to run a country, But he really has no plan. He likes to brag and bully, And mock and slap and slam. Little Donny Loser. Such a sad, small man. Little Donny Loser Says he's really rich, Living in his gilded halls That really are just kitsch. Little Donny Loser Has pumped himself so big, He's bluster and he's bombast, And he acts just like a pig. He's primped and preened, a branded scheme. He lives on self-applause. Little Donny Loser Is a huckster and a fraud He calls himself, The King of Deals, Though he's always going bust. He lies and cheats and sometimes steals. He's not a man to trust. Little Donny Loser Such a sad, small man. He wants to be a bruiser And pick on those he can. His skin is thin, if he doesn't win, And he doesn't win too much. 'Cause Little Donny Loser Really is a putz.
Chat GPT: Thank you for sharing your poem, "Little Donny Loser." It's a strong expression of your thoughts and feelings about Donald Trump during his presidential campaign in 2016. Poetry can be a powerful way to convey emotions and perspectives. Is there anything specific you'd like to discuss or explore further about the poem?
Me: Knowing what we now know about Donald Trump's presidency and his legal troubles from legitimate news reports, could you write a new updated satirical poem about his current campaign for president?
Chat GPT: Certainly! Here's a satirical poem about Donald Trump's hypothetical current campaign for president, taking into account his presidency and legal troubles. Please note that this is a fictional piece for entertainment purposes: "The Trumpian Encore" by ChatGPT Once again he returns, with a narcissistic flare, The man known for his antics, the audacious billionaire. With legal troubles lurking, his past deeds in plain sight, Donald Trump resurfaces, ready to take flight. "The stable genius," he proclaims with pride, Though critics claim his intellect is simply a guise. A trail of controversies follows in his wake, Yet he struts forward, for another chance to partake. He boasts of his "great" achievements from times gone by, But many see through the smokescreen of his grandiose lie. The walls he promised, still mere fragments of a dream, While division and discord remain his toxic regime. With lawsuits looming, he spins a web of denial, Claiming witch hunts and conspiracies as his trial. But the truth, like a persistent flame, flickers strong, Unveiling the tarnished legacy he'd like to prolong. His Twitter tirades, a chaotic symphony of noise, Spewing falsehoods and insults, a political ploy. But amidst the bluster and bombast, truth takes flight, As fact-checkers work overtime, exposing his slight. His loyal followers, fervently waving their flags, Blinded by charisma, disregarding his snag. But others see the flaws, the cracks in his veneer, The leader who sows discord, sowing seeds of fear. Yet here he stands, with podium and mic in hand, Seeking another term, as only he understands. The Trumpian encore, a spectacle for the stage, Where truth and reason often struggle to engage. So, let us ponder this theatrical display, As we navigate the future, in our own unique way. For satire and scrutiny may pierce through the veil, And guide us towards a future where truth shall prevail. ChatGBT: Note: This poem is a fictional and satirical work and does not reflect real events or campaigns.
I’m gobsmacked. Yes, indeed, it’s clunky. But, it’s pretty damned accurate. And, as I said, it only took seconds for the AI to write. So, yeah, artists should be concerned about the creativity of artificial intelligence.
What Poets Know That ChatGPT Doesn’t
There’s a reason the AI writes pretty awful verse.
